~Be Weird, Make Money: Halloween by Kimberly Stewart Want make a little extra money. . . ya, I thought so. This presentation will help you find the intersection of your skills and interests and turn them into income. In our case, Kimberly will explain how to make money using our love of all things spooky and Halloween. Whether it’s just some extra fun money to build/buy more props or something that can potentially replace your current revenue. Kimberly will help you focus on what you want, what you already have, how to turn your ideas into action, as well as, talking about what Haunters know best, how to be creative and get around obstacles. Most importantly how to get your stuff in front of people who want what you have and will give you money for it!

Kimberly is a Small Business Idea Consultant and Licensed Massage Therapist. This lifelong Halloween enthusiast got involved in the Haunted Attraction industry back in 2006 and in 2014, Kimberly spoke at HauntCon on this subject.

~Massive Mud Monsters: Creating Large-scale Monster Mud Set Pieces by Mike Quill – Monster Mud is by no means a new prop building technique, but you don’t often see it used for large-scale projects. In the last two years, Mike, Brad and the Fear Town team, have taken on several large projects using Monster Mud and have seen it become a viable option for creating big props on a small budget. Mike and Brad will use these projects as a case study to show the design process, costs, time invested, benefits and pitfalls of using Monster Mud for large-scale projects.

Mike Quill. . . (the East Coast Haunt Club has been watching this kid for quite a while now), has been haunting for over 20 years. Mike, the General Manager and Brad, the Building Manager have been working at Fear Town Haunted House from 2013 to present.

~How we do it: Sound design for your haunt by Brett Walker – Audio is one of the most powerful tools we have as haunters. It taps into the guest’s own imagination, drawing them into the alternate reality that we create. As a charity haunter, budget is always a consideration. Brett will show us how with a small budget, you can create a big impact. He will demonstrate the process he uses to create sound for the various environments in The Salisbury Woods. The demonstration will include a discussion of tools, resources, and equipment.

Brett, an Investment Advisor, has been haunting for 15 years and for the last 6-years he has been running The Salisbury Woods, Haunted Barn and Trail, a charity haunt in Salisbury NH.

~Molding & Casting a Latex Mask by Vic and Warren! – These long time Haunt Club contributors will demonstrate the soup-to-nuts process of creating a mold around a mask sculpt, pouring casting latex in the mold, and pulling/training/trimming the cured mask.

Warren “International Man of Mystery” Maxwell, Technical writer in the computer networking/telecommunications industry, has been haunting for 10 years now. In addition to producing his home haunt “Third Degree of Terror”, Warren also has experience with set design, prop-making and acting at Ghoulie Manor in MA and has been a guest actor at a few Haunted attractions like Brighton Asylum in NJ, and Dark Hour in TX to name a few. Warren is also one of the main organizers of the MA Make-n-Take group.

Victor Bariteau has been haunting (home and professional) for more than 20 years, before opening his own haunted attraction: Ghoulie Manor. Victor was featured in the critically acclaimed documentary: The American Scream as well as sculpted and built props for television and movies.

~ Scary Lighting Concepts by George Farrow – George will tackle the concepts of professional lighting design, layering of colors, effects, gobos/patterns, types of fixtures, beam dispersion, and application/use cases for all the different variables that go into lighting design. We’ll also discuss the advantages to using filters vs proprietary colored LED’s

George started his first home haunt in 2009 (he was only 9yrs old!). From there he haunted his parents front yard and later the garage in 2013 until 2016. Founding partner in Wireless that Works, LLC (a company that rents wireless microphone packages and builds/sells custom wireless packages nationally), George is a sound and lighting designer, technician, engineer, and consultant and also a Systems Engineer/Project Manager for Clegg Sound Associates, LLC (a full service sound & production company specializing in custom solutions for ultra-high quality live sound). Additionally, he has worked around the country as a freelance consultant/designer/tech on various productions, mainly sound, lighting, and video, and has toured with the National Broadway tour of A Christmas Carol as the sound & video engineer on the road. If that’s not enough, George has also worked at various pro haunts around the New England area…..So he has just a little bit of knowledge to share.

~ Do’s & Don’ts of Running a Multi Haunted Attraction by Brad Wells – In their 20+ years of running Legends of Fear,  Brad and his wife, Trish, have learned the do’s and don’ts of running a large Haunted Attraction.  Through observation, modification and feedback they have improved scares, scenes, throughput and customer experience.  Starting with a hayride, they have added a 45 minute-long walking trail, a concession area, gift shop and photo ops. Whether you are a home haunt or multiple Haunted Attraction, learn how to improve your event and give customers a Halloween to remember.

Brad, along with his wife Trish, and daughters Caroline and Deirdre, owns and operates Legends of Fear which has been in business for over 20 years on their farm, Fairview Tree Farm in Shelton, CT.  In the off season, they sell Christmas Trees, run events on their farm and Landscape for homes and businesses.
